Seminar Session_3
Once again, thank you to those of you who took the time to come out to the seminar on Sunday! It was really great to be able to work with all of you as teachers and colleagues. Some really great stuff has already come out of this project--interesting lesson plans, ideas and writing--and I can't wait to see what more is in store!

Still, even though it's been a joy working on this project, we'd like to be able to make it even better if we ever decide to do it again in the future. The only way for us to do that is by hearing your feedback--hopefully, you've had a sufficient chance to unwind and reflect after the session on Sunday.

So, whether you came to only one seminar or all three, we want to hear from you, our experienced teachers. Please answer honestly and completely to help us become better teachers and project designers!
Writing Beyond Reality--Rivne

Feedback Questionnaire

Please answer the following questions and send back to Andrew at this email address.

Throughout the seminars:

  • What did you find most useful either as a teacher or as a writer?
  • What, if anything, might change in the way you think about writing? About teaching writing?
  • How likely are you to use creative writing materials in your classes?
  • Suggestions: What could we have done differently to make it better for you? What would you have liked to know more about? What did we spend too much time on?

Feedback from the participants
Yulia Safonova, RELLiseum
I used some activities, which you've suggested, in my classes. Most of all children were interested in the activity with the task to create their own stories, using only the information, they got on three shits of paper from their classmates about the name of the hero, the time and place of the story and the conflict. They all were  excited. Their stories were very different. I will send you some: So thank you for positive emotions and inspiration!!!

The most useful thing was the awareness of "self ability" to create. Now I understand that every person  is talented, everyone can be a writer. And the main  thing of teaching writing is to help every child to believe in his talent. A pupil is not a vessel, you are to fill. It is a torch you are to set fire to. And the only way to do it is to inspire.

Suggestions: don't do it on Sundays, please! Sunday doesn't inspire for writing, only for rest.
and one more - would you be so kind as to make sessions shorter - it is really hard to keep attention for 6 hours. As for me, I would really like to know more  activities I can use  for teaching creative writing.

Dear colleagues,
a new project is announced!
Writing Beyond... _( Creative Writing  and  School Curriculum Development.)

PROJECT DATES        January, 2012 – June 2012

This project will use a series of creative writing seminars, spread out across a three-month span, to educate teachers and students alike about how to incorporate creative writing and critical thinking into their lives inside and outside of the classroom. Together with the CTLT, NGO counterparts and several Peace Corps volunteers, three one-day seminars will be conducted, one each in February, March and April, that will focus on teaching basic creative writing techniques and outlets, with a special emphasis on e- teaching, production and publication. The seminars will be divided into three main subject areas: basic writing/genre information and best practices in February; editing and workshopping in March; and project development and publication in April. The gap between each seminar will be necessary for participants to plan and work on writing projects. All of the lessons will include practical information and ideas that can be applied in the classroom and in the participants' personal and academic lives.  Fifteen teachers from the city of Rivne and within the vicinity of the city in Rivnenska oblast, as well as 10 motivated university pre-teachers,  twenty students ages 16-22, will attend each seminar held at Rivne State Humanities University in the regional Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT). Participants will be invited through Peace Corps volunteer contacts, the TESOL-Ukraine group, and in conjunction with the Rivne Department of Education. The seminars will be open on a first-come, first serve basis to any teacher or student willing to commit to all three sessions (we will have participants apply to the program and then sign a commitment statement at the first session). Throughout the seminars we will discuss and decide upon a group project (a blog, anthology, or zine) composed of participant writing to be completed by June, 2012. To train teachers and pre-teachers new technologies will be one of the tasks of the project. Webinars prepared and conducted by the trainers together with  the participants will show the teachers one more way for in-service training.
